MEET MELANINSUNFLOWER

Hey there, I'm MelaninSunflower. No this is not my legal name but it is the name I display online. What is the meaning behind the name? There is no deep meaning behind it I just love Sunflowers and I am BLACK… LOL. I came up with this name in 2015 when I had to create a Playstation username.

I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida, to Lisa (deceased) and Calvin—two people in love whose story took a turn when my father’s mother passed away. Eventually, my mom was deemed unable to raise me and my sister, and we were put in the system. My mother later had 4 more children with another man but let's stay on track...

We were taken in by my uncle’s wife while they were still married, and even after their divorce, she chose to keep us and give us a home. She was a hardworking woman with her own story and her own traumas, trying to navigate life while carrying the pain of what she never got to heal from her mother.

Growing up in a generation where you were expected to stay quiet about what happened at home created deep trauma in many Black households—especially for little girls. Those little girls then had to navigate adulthood while struggling emotionally, sometimes becoming the adults who stayed silent to protect the men who caused harm. I became a victim in that house too, but I vowed I would never carry that burden or repeat that pattern.

Part of my life purpose is to speak about my experiences so that anyone who has been through something similar can see the light—not only at the end of the tunnel, but the light that’s also inside the tunnel of themselves.

At an early age, I knew I was different. I was constantly reprimanded for having different thoughts about religion. I was never celebrated on my birthday (somehow I was always on punishment around that time). I remember getting a Power Wheel from my Auntie Yolanda and Uncle Harold (two of the biggest blessings in my life), only for it to be taken from me and given to her children—as I watched from the upstairs window in the room in College Hill Projects.

Yolanda always told me why they treated me differently. Through her teachings, I became who I am now: smart, talented, curious, open, free, and confident. She was religious too, but I feel like she knew I was different. She would call me her Barbie Doll. (She loved Barbies—had a room full of them that no one could access or touch.) I can still smell the mothballs she stored in that room.

That lady spoke life into me. She taught me how to cook at the age of five. She gave me skills (I used to actually play the piano). I could sew. I had to learn how to spell from the Webster dictionary… which makes sense why I can darn near spell anything.

Her husband, Uncle Harold, called me his “little rat girl” because we would find dead rats in traps and flush them down the toilet (I personally didn’t like rats), LOL—but I loved my uncle. Through them, I met Uncle Tom and Ms. Mary, and they loved me dearly. Every Saturday at the flea market, they would give me all types of things, including snacks and food.

Rest in peace to Uncle Harold, Auntie Yolanda, Uncle Tom, and Ms. Mary.

Moving along, I began fully accepting the “different” me in 2004, trying to understand the visions and thoughts I would have. By then, I was completely okay with being treated differently, because I had been going through that my whole life anyway.

I couldn’t wear a mask, I had to accept who I was, both good and bad. The people around me, especially family, would introduce me before anyone ever met me, and I get it: I was known as the liar and the thief in the family as a child. I grew out of it in my 20s when I began to “heal,” or at least acknowledge why those parts of me existed.

But I still left an imprint on the people I impacted, so I could understand some of their actions toward me. Still, constantly being hated, talked down to, and neglected never sat right with me... no matter what I was known for... as it was never who I was.

In 2018, I moved away from Tampa. I wanted to get away from the energy of always feeling like a burden, always being a doormat, I wanted to get out of my people pleasing tendencies and I wanted to step into my purpose without a safety net. (I never really had one anyway, but I wanted to make sure no one could help me.)

I left after my storage was sold with everything in it, including personal things (I still hold a fear of being exposed). I had personal pictures, my identification, multiple businesses I invested in—my whole life was in there! That was literally the Tower moment to my move! The job I was at paid for my apartment, I packed my things and a friend of mine at the moment picked me up and we drove to Virginia!

In 2022, my actual awakening began—but it was buried under hustling, because by then I had lost everything I ever owned TWICE.

The second time was when I moved to VA and was in a relationship I had to let go of, with that person taking everything they bought (rightfully so, because I didn’t want it). I worked 55+ hours a week for two years to replace what I had lost in five.

In 2025, after paying everything off, I lost that job and became unemployed. During that unemployment, GOD showed up—and my awakening truly began. I started healing my past wounds. I forgave myself for what I allowed myself to experience. I forgave people I swore I would never forgive. I had conversations with some and received apologies I never thought I would receive.

God brought people from my past to apologize for the way they treated me, to show me I was never in the wrong—and that loving people was never wrong. (I used to blame myself for being mistreated and tell myself I wasn’t worthy of being loved.) I forgave all and reconciled with a few.

Misunderstandings became clear. God gave me the space and wisdom on how to love myself and how to stop being hyper-independent. Clarity around my purpose started to come in (I kind of already knew what it was, LOL). God started showing me things in my dreams, on license plates—unconventional ways, honestly—and that’s where we are today.

Fully in my purpose… helping others navigate life’s challenges and the moments when things are unclear.

I'm really a super private person when it comes to my life so I don’t have much to share on a personal level but beyond my gift I am someone that use to model, I am a gamer, I use to rap and write poems (my poems was dark due to my childhood) I am really a revised reflection of my mom and I am my grandmothers twin (pictured below )

This is my dad’s mother, Magnolia Mincy. I was 2 when she passed away so I got to meet her but I do not remember her. My legal name came from her as well. My family says I am a spitting image of her (her obituary scared me cause it looked like ME)

MY GIFT

I have always been a light—someone people could turn to for help or guidance. Even people I didn’t know often felt comfortable sharing their problems with me and were open to the advice I offered.

By the age of five, I knew I was different from my family. I questioned the religion they believed in, and I would get in trouble for it. I was the outcast among the kids in the household. The adults bullied me, I couldn’t make friends, my innocence was taken, and I starved for attention and love. I was bullied in school, and my thought process about everything felt different from everyone else’s.

In 2002, I had a mini spiritual awakening—or at least clarity around what I believed—and since then, I’ve been in and out of my journey.

In 2018, I moved completely away from home and everyone I knew (for a man… I know, I know), but also to start somewhere new. I had just lost everything I owned in storage due to nonpayment, and I was dying to find peace. Unbeknownst to me, that move would catapult me fully into my spiritual purpose.

After we broke up, I lost my job in 2025, and that’s when I knew God was telling me it was time to activate and fulfill my contract. I began healing and, after that phase, started doing readings on Twitch for a collective of people seeking spiritual clarity and guidance.

I have always known my purpose in life is to be of service to others, and I knew I was a messenger because people felt comfortable around me. My ability to take pain, transmute it, and still remain graceful was a telltale sign. I used to tell people I was a healer—I didn’t fully understand it then, but I knew I was special. Change naturally occurred around me, and people who interacted with me would begin to see differently for their lives and incorporate it, even after doing me wrong.

I was always someone who would “make others better for other people,” and I never got to experience the change or the better version of them. I wasn’t supposed to, my purpose had been fulfilled in their life - I wouldn’t be able to get past the betrayal anyways if I stayed to “see the change”

I still have many purposes to fulfill and as I fulfill them I will come back and update y'all but for now I think you have a clear understanding of who I am and the responsibility I have surrounding my purpose.

This website is in honor of my ancestors. Honoring those that walked before me and continue to walk with me. For those that did all the healing of the bloodline that they could. Honoring those of my highest good that fight for me in the spiritual so that my walk for the family isn't as hard. Thank you, I love you and I'm blessed to have you.

"and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills—to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts" — Exodus 31: 3-5
